The Provincial Council promotes the knowledge and enjoyment of the Mozarabic Way in the north of the province
The Provincial Council of Cordoba disseminates and promotes the Mozarabic Way of St. James in the northern part of the province with activities for the knowledge of its route and the pilgrim’s rest, within the project ‘Camino Vertical’, co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Interreg Spain-Portugal program (POCTEP 2021-2027).
The delegate of Finance and European Funds of the Provincial Council of Cordoba, Ana Rosa Ruz, said that with this project “we intend to increase awareness of the Mozarabic Way of St. James as it passes through the province, highlighting the historical, cultural, natural, scenic and gastronomic heritage of the Cordovan territory and promoting sustainable development and tourism.
In Alcaracejos, a talk on ‘Health and Wellbeing’ was given in collaboration with Eva Mª Moreno, doctor in Psychology, and Luisa Jiménez, physiotherapist, in which the importance and benefits of hiking for the elderly and contact with nature, among other aspects, were discussed.
There has also been a route with the group through part of the section of the Mozarabic Way that runs through the municipality, about 4 kilometers, where botanical, environmental and historical aspects of this route have been explained.
Finally, in this municipality, in collaboration with the City Council, an initiative has been launched offering ‘pilgrimage vouchers’ for the Los Pedroches Thermal Center. During the month of April and May, and while stocks last, to obtain a voucher the person must prove their status as a pilgrim with the credential in the facilities themselves.
Alcaracejos is the entrance of the Mozarabic Way to the region of Los Pedroches, with a long stage of about 35 kilometers from Villaharta, due to this circumstance this town has been linked to the rest of the pilgrim with these ‘bonds’ to enjoy an Arab circuit or a massage of legs, back or head in the Thermal Center.
In Hinojosa del Duque, the activity consisted of interviews with different social agents, volunteers, associations, businesses, companies and tourist guides, bars and restaurants, with the aim of finding out their opinion of the Mozarabic Way as it passes through the town and to promote its knowledge and improve the image of pilgrims towards the Camino and the municipality.
